Helping Dogs and Cats in Need

Mimi Ausland, 12, really loves animals! After visiting a website that donates rice to hungry people, she was inspired to create a similar website to help dogs and cats in animal shelters. When visitors answer a trivia question on Freekibble.com or Freekibblekat.com, they donate 10 pieces of kibble to Mimi’s project. Mimi’s sites have been a huge hit, and she has been featured in several articles both online and in print.

Mimi is passionate about her work collecting food for shelter animals. “I love helping animals because of how they cannot speak for themselves and people have to speak for them. I also love being able to help them get good healthy food and actually delivering the food myself to our local shelter–and I really like making other people aware that they need our help,” she says.

Mimi’s Advice

How
can you make a difference? “Do whatever you can do, whether that is
starting a website like mine or setting up a lemonade stand. Just help!
Each one of us can make a difference and if everyone gets involved we
can REALLY make a difference!”

    I think it’s great that you’re trying to help animals in need, we got our cat from the Dumb Friends’ League about ten years ago, that was all I thought I could do to help, but I guess there’s more!

    Hi Mimi!! I’m SO glad you are trying to help the hungry animals! My puppy’s name is Mimi also. You are an inspiration to me!!!!! I would LOVE to meet you some day. You do an AWESOME job helping the animals in need!

    Thats awesome i have rwo dogs one was adbandoned and one from the animal shelter. thier names are matilda and sassafrasjohosafat(sassy for short). I also have a cat that fell off my roof his name is Garfield

    It is nice to see people helping animals the way you do. Many people forget that animals need help just like humans need help. It is GREAT what you are doing. I volunteer at an animal shelter, so I am definitely very supportive of you. Animals are one of the greatest creatures on Earth, and they deserve the same equality, kindness, and fairness that humans get.

    it’s good that she’s helping animals. I feel sorry for every dog&cat that she sees out on the road.

    we found my cat in front of a post office.My dad keeps complaining about us having to put him in the back of his new car! ;-)
