Dewey

Hi this is Dewey!

Today, after breakfast we had a meeting on our itinerary for the next week. We also had a slideshow from Bruce and Amy about their job as photographers and different techniques they can give us to become better at photography! After that, we jumped onto our tour bus and headed to the Mamacona Country House, which has Peruvian horses.

Once we got there (after a 40 minute bus ride) we walked down a dirt rode and entered the gates to the horse ranch. Instantly a Peruvian folk band started playing for us and we spotted the most BEAUTIFUL horses ever. The host (owner of the ranch) directed us to a fancy backyard with a row of seats and seated us to watch a horse show and Peruvian dances!! The show was wonderful, we got to see some men direct the horses in a neat show with the horses practically jumping in the air!! As the horses and their riders showed off their moves some Peruvian dancers showed us some very difficult looking dances, they also wore very pretty dresses and outfits!

Once the show was over we moved onto a very pretty patio and ate a very good selection of food from the country (there were potatoes, pastas, meat etc.). When we were served, some more dancers moved on the dance floor in the center of the patio and did some ORININAL celebration dances, I was actually pulled out of the crowd when I was taking pictures to dance with one of the women, It was good fun! From there we finally got to do some riding! Everyone got a turn. This was my first time on a horse so it was quite the experience!!!! The horses we so well groomed and had pretty manes and hair. Once the riding was over we were directed to a wall with amazing trees in the back round, and got our pictures taken with some of the sponsors from Peru.

Today was a very fun experience for me and everyone else; I can’t wait for all of the other things in store for this AMAZING trip in Peru!!

    m&m here,

Wow! What a fantastic picture Dewey! It sounds like this was no ordinary horse show…and I can’t believe that you got to ride too! Ask Cady if the Peruvian Paso “stepping horse” truly is the most comfortable horse in the world. She researched the Peruvian Pasos for a school project just before she left for Peru. She may not want to go back to the old Welsh pony she rides at home. Tell her Cass misses her too! Thank you for all the wonderful details Dewey!!!

Cady and Dad, we miss you!!!

Your trip is sounding quite magical and stimulating! What was it like to dance with a native girl? We hope you are getting fantastic pix to show us! Did you have a hard time staying on the horse? We miss you! Also, the wedding was a blast!

This horse is absolutely gorgeous! And you got to ride too…! This sounds like my kind of trip! As you might know from the other blogs, i love horses! This horse looks like my horse, Lucy! Photography tips, wow, I cant believe how cool that must have been! I’m sure everyone learned a lot! This picture is so gorgeous! I recently went to a Lipizzaner stallion horse show! It was amazing! Like you mentioned, the horses were doing tricks and jumping in the air! They are so incredible huh! Do you know what breed of horses they were? A couple of the horses in the show that I went to were actually from South America, possibly Peru! Small world…! Oh, did the horse that you rode have a really comfortable gait? Was it sheer awesomeness…!? Have a wicked rest of the time in PERU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dewey,
Awesome picture! You captured the movement of the horse and the color in the background contrasted with the all white of the trainer….priceless. I am so glad that you(and the rest of the team) are getting to experience all the unique things Peru has to offer; riding a horse for the first time, Macchu Picchu, the rainforest, the list just goes on and on.

Keep learning and having an amazing adventure!!!!Patty (Ians’ mom)

    Dewey,

I’ve been thinking of you often and wondering what sort of adventure you’ve been having. Checking out your blog and learning more about Peru myself can’t possibly compare to seeing it in real life, but the breathtaking photos give me a good idea that you are exploring a truly beautiful part of the world. I’m hoping you will do some sort of presentation when you get home. No doubt you will have a lot of stories to tell, and many more beautiful pictures to share. Way to go, Dewey. Your friends are all real proud of you!

    Peruvian Pasos,
They have a natural high-stepping gate which has been called the “Smoothest Ride in the Wrold.” I have always wanted to meet one.
