Ian’s Expedition

Hi, this is Ian! I got home from Peru four days ago and can’t stop thinking how cool the people were. Everyone: the photographers, the Explorer team, the guides, and just regular citizens of Peru. The people on this trip helped me learn a lot. Everywhere we visited there were interesting people. From the cities of Lima and and Cusco, to the highlands, to the rain forest of Puerto Maldonado, the people of Peru were some of the most fascinating people I have ever met.

In some ways we are all so different–the way we dress, the languages we speak, but in many other ways we are all the same. We all feel joy and sadness, and we all laugh. I will never forget the school children we met in the highlands, the Peruvian guides who taught us so much, the photographers, or the contest winners from the States who are now good friends. It’s been only four days and I find myself missing everyone I met in Peru more than I would have thought. I hope we are able to keep in touch.

    Yes, despite the many differences amongst peoples around the world, there really is a deep connection that can happen when you travel with an open mind. Good for you, Ian, for realizing how much we humans all share!

    Cool blog! It’s nice to read about one of the explorer’s abstract feelings instead of just ‘it’s indescribable’ all the the time. After a while, no real noun of how you feel makes everything kind of the same. Thanks!

    Hi, AARON_2005!

    It is so cool that you are from Peru. I just have to say, your country is absolutely, positively drop-dead gorgeous. We all had a blast traveling to such a beautiful country in South America. It truly was an eye-opening and once-in-a-lifetime experience.

    Like I said in my other post, I’m determined to go back to Peru (more than once!). (I’m already really homesick for Peru!) So who knows, we might just run into each other one day! :)

    Hey,
    Ian I really like your photograoh. The Peruvian girl stands out and her eyes are very dramatic. I think it would be a good contest winner. I am very jealous of you and all the other HOEC winners; that school sounded like a blast. I really love all the bright colored clothing they ware. Does everyone in Peru ware such bright colors?
