The Hunger Games

BOOK NAME: The Hunger Games
AUTHOR: Suzanne Collins

16-year old Katniss Everdeen lives in the country of Panem, which represents the last remnants of North American civilization as we know it. Each year, the capital hosts the Hunger Games, an event that makes the people of Panem realize that they are under the supreme power of the capital. During the Hunger Games, a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18 are taken from each district to participate. The Games are a fight to the death in a giant arena, and the last person, or tribute, alive wins. When Katniss’s little sister Prim gets picked at random to be the female tribute for District 12, Katniss volunteers to take her place. The rest of the story follows her journey in the Games.

You’ll have to read more to find out what happens as Katniss journeys to the Capital and enters the games. Katniss really inspired me with her bravery and love for her family. She stood up for what she believed in and made sure she was doing the right thing. I think that a lot of themes from the book translate really well into everyday life, and one thing I liked about this book is that you get to see everything from Katniss’s point of view. I also love books that I can’t put down, and The Hunger Games is that kind of book-I was even reading it during class sometimes! It’s an enthralling storyline that makes me need to keep reading, and seeing it from Katniss’s perspective made me feel like it was me going through all of the terrible ordeals. This is a book that takes a more mature mindset, so I would definitely recommend it for middle-school aged kids.

A very interesting, thought-provoking book. Utopia books are my favorite, and this book is now one of my favorite. Though it is a brutal book and has lots of romance, it is a well written book.

This is my favorite book of all time!!!!
I love it so much I bought several copies then gave them to people. I especially like the first book because it has more action, but the second 1 is good too. My favorite character is Cinna, who designs outfits for Katniss. But apparently, he gets beat up by a few Peacekeepers. Anyway, this book will make you laugh out loud, cry, and it makes you feel like you are the main character! S read away!!

P.S. The hardcover versions cost about $17.99

This sounds like a real good book and I am going to look it up in our library today itself! I love these sorts of adventure stories about how you take up the responsibility of your family as an older sibling!! It encourages us to be brave and do whatever you can to help our family out of a difficulty! It is very interesting to read about our old traditions and customs which seems so strange and dangerous to us but at the same time must have really happened all those years ago!! Thank you for the blog!!

This book was so amazing! It only took me 1 1/2 days to read! I can’t wait for the movie to come out. I got Catching fire yesterday and I’m going to start it. The third book has a sales rank of nine on Barnes and noble website. Twilight has a rank of 79. Hunger Games beats vampires any day!

I agree with you, Crocks04! Lots of people say that Utopia book all have the same plot, but I love them! They never fail to intruige me.

If anyone hasn’t read this yet, read it right now! it is so worth it!

I loved Suzane Collins’s Gregor the Overlander series up untill the last chapter of the last book. I hope these don’t end as horribly.

For anyone who liked this you should read Unwind by Neal Shusterman or the Shadow Children series by Margaret Haddix.

Great books! I didn’t like the ending of the third book. Peeta so doesn’t deserve Katniss. Team Gale all the way sisters! I thought he was so nice. And Haymitch isn’t all bad in the end,and Prim should not have died. Grr the last book was good but made me bawl. The book was so disappointing. I did like the other two books though.
