BOOK NAME: Turtle in Paradise
AUTHOR: Jennifer L. Holm
Welcome back, everyone! Time for this week’s book club meeting. We’re reading Jennifer L.
Holm’s book Turtle in Paradise. (Holm is also the author of the Babymouse
book series.) This week’s chapters were full of some pretty exciting stuff for Turtle. What do you think is going to happen next?

Stop here if you aren’t done with chapter 14.
In this week’s chapters, Turtle finally meets her Uncle Vernon, who is Aunt Minnie’s husband. Her cat Smokey uses Minnie’s laundry pile as her toilet.. or does she? Do you think it was another cat, or maybe one of the kids? and Turtle spends some time getting to know Nana Philly. Nana Philly doesn’t seem to like kids very much, but she takes a liking to Turtle and Smokey. Turtle and the Diaper Gang go off on another adventure–searching for pirate treasure!
Aunt Minnie gets stung by a scorpion! That must be really scary. Have you ever been stung by something like a bee, or bitten by a spider?
Turtle and the kids get a chance to go to a Shirley Temple. Turtle ends up looking after Nana Philly instead. She hates Shirley Temple, anyway. (Shirley Temple is way too cheerful for Turtle!) Are there any movies or movie stars you don’t like very much?
What would you do if you found a treasure map like Turtle did?
Here
are some
words you might not have seen before. (All definitions
from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary.)
Arsenic:
A poisonous trioxide of a poisonous metalloid element used especially as an insecticide or weed killer.
Linger: To be slow in parting or in quitting something
Slip:
An undergarment made in dress length and usually having shoulder straps.
This week we’ll finish the book. We can’t wait to find out what happens to Turtle. We’ll also announce August’s book. See you on Wednesday!
