We’ll announce the next pick on Friday. Who knows–your pick might be
DogEared’s August book!

Stop here if you haven’t finished the book yet!

The map Turtle found turns out to be the real deal–she and the Diaper Gang find real treasure! But there’s one problem… the boat drifts away, and the kids are stuck out on a key with no way off. Then a hurricane strikes the islands! After the storm, they gets rescued, and Turtle’s Mama comes to Key West. It seems like Turtle will get her happy ending, but it doesn’t turn out quite the way she expected.

During the storms, there are rats in the shack with the Diaper Gang trying to keep away from the water. Are you afraid of rats? Do you know anyone who keeps a rat as a pet?

Why do you think Archie left? Do you think he really cared about Turtle?

Do you think Slow Poke will be part of Turtle’s life in the future? How do you think he got his nickname?

Have you read any other books about the Great Depression?

Here
are some
words you might not have seen before. (All definitions
from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary.)

Cornstarch:
Starch made from corn and used in foods as a thickening agent.

Foraging:
To wander in search of food.

Key:
A low island or reef; specifically: any of the coral islets off the southern coast of Florida.

And now, for August’s book. We’re having trouble making up our minds what to read. We think something funny and summery would do the trick. Are there any books that you can’t want to read that you would like to see us talk about next month? Leave a comment with your suggestion. We’ll announce the next pick on Friday. Who knows–your pick might be DogEared’s August book!

I really want the next book to be Triss by Brian Jacques or every soul a star by Wendy Mass or any of the redwall series or Jeremy Fink and the meaning of life.

Wonder what else was in that shack. Hey smartgirl1, it’s new, but you can buy it online for almost nothing if you have free shiping. It was good.

I have read this book and think it is very good. Why would you want to be sent over to town and not be able to see your mom?
