BOOK NAME: The London Eye Mystery
AUTHOR: Siobhan Dowd

Welcome to August’s last book club meeting!

jindo2108, we agree with you! It would be disappointing to get this far and not have Kat and Ted solve the mystery. 2whitie, it’s true that a lot of mysteries have leads earlier in the story. Can anyone think why the author might wait so long to give readers a lead to follow?

We’ll be talking about the end of the book today. Click “See More” to jump into the discussion.

If you haven’t finished the book, stop here!

Ted and Kat chase Christy, the mystery man who gave Salim the London Eye ticket, ut the trail seems to go cold. Later, back at the house, Ted starts reading The Tempest, a Shakespeare play that Salim had been in at school. The book makes it all click–Ted knows how Salim disappeared! He tells the detectives, and they prove Ted right by talking to Salim’s friend Marcus… but Salim is still missing. Kat and Ted start talking about where Salim might have gone, and they’re able to figure out where he is! Salim is reunited with his family. Hooray, we LOVE a happy ending!

Why do you think Christy didn’t admit to his part in the scheme?

Were you able to solve the mystery of how Salim disappeared before Ted?

Do you think Ted should be a meteorologist or a detective when he grows up?

Here
are some
words you might not have seen before. (All definitions
from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary.)

Esophagus:
A muscular tube that in humans is about nine inches (23 centimeters) long and passes from the pharynx down the neck between the trachea and the spinal column and behind the left bronchus where it pierces the diaphragm slightly to the left of the middle line and joins the cardiac end of the stomach. (Spelled as “oesophagus” in the book.)

Legion:
A very large number.

Richter Scale:
An open-ended logarithmic scale for expressing the magnitude of a seismic disturbance (as an earthquake).

That wraps up August’s book! We like mysteries. Would you like to read more mysteries in the future?

Our book for September will be Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, suggested by DogEared reader !

I knew Ted and Kat would solve it!!! But I, for sure could of never, ever, NEVER have solved it before them. One, I have never been that good at solving mysteries, two, the solution is so crazy that its hard for me to even think of a theory like that!!
I think that Ted should be a detective. You can’t just waste a brain like his!!!
Lets read more mysteries!!!! Mysteries are probably one of my favorite generes, except for fantasy. What about you guys?
I’ll look for Jeremy Fink at the library today!!

Thanks jindo2108! I think that Jeremy Fink and the meaning of life is fiction, but the characters make it seem realistic fiction. After reading that book, I always read it as what I termed H.O.W. ( just like the H.O.J . In the book). :)
