BOOK NAME: Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life
AUTHOR: Wendy Mass
Welcome to the book club meeting! This week, we started Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. It’s another mystery, but the tone’s a bit lighter than our last book. If you’re ready to talk about the book through chapter five, let’s get started!
If you have read through the first five chapters, click “See More” to get to the discussion.
If you haven’t read that far yet, or if you’re still looking for a copy, stop here!
Jeremy Fink is twelve years old this summer. He is about to turn thirteen. He has one good friend, his neighbor Lizzy. Jeremy and Lizzy are almost complete opposites, but they get along well. One day, a package containing a mysterious box arrives in the mail. The box is from Jeremy’s father, who died when Jeremy was eight. According to the label, the box contains the meaning of life! The only problem is the box needs four keys to open, and the lawyer who has been holding onto the box misplaced them. Plus, the lawyer’s office has closed! Jeremy and Lizzy need to find the keys so they can get into the box.
They take the box to a locksmith, but he isn’t able to open it. Next, they try the flea market to see if they can find keys that will fit. No good either. While they try to figure out what to do next, they have the state fair talent show to prepare for, and new neighbors (with teenage kids) are moving into the apartment building.
Can you think of anywhere to look for keys that Jeremy and Lizzy haven’t thought of? What would you do if you were Jeremy?
Jeremy has a mutant candy collection, and we read that Jeremy’s dad was a collector, too. Do you have any collections?
Have you ever been to a flea market?
