BOOK NAME: Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life
AUTHOR: Wendy Mass
Welcome to the book club meeting! This week, we are finished reading Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. If you’ve finished the book, let’s get started.
We’re still looking for suggestions for future books to read! If you have a book you’ve been itching to read and talk about, leave the a comment with the title.
If you have finished the story, click “See More” to get to the discussion.
If you haven’t read that far yet, stop here!
Jeremy, Lizzy, and Jeremy’s mom go to visit Jeremy’s Grandma. She runs a bed and breakfast for people who love cats. Visitors get a “temporary cat” to care for when they arrive. The family prepares for the fair. Jeremy and Lizzy’s routine doesn’t quite go as expected, and Jeremy ends up being the one to take center stage!
The next day is Jeremy’s 14th birthday. He has a picnic with his family and Lizzy (who is almost family, anyway), and he opens his presents. Lizzy gives him the last key, and the kids open the box together. They find a pile of rocks and a note. The big lesson that Jeremy learns is the meaning of life is just that–LIFE!
Jeremy does a brave thing by going on stage. It’s something he’d never thought he’d do. Have you ever surprised yourself by doing something that you thought was impossible for you?
The note from Jeremy’s dad tells the story of the two fighting wolves each person has inside of them. What do you think “the one you feed” means?
Something big happens to Lizzy in the last chapters. Do you think that growing up might mean Jeremy and Lizzy’s friendship might change?
Jeremy’s grandmother really likes cats. Do you have any pets?
If you collected rocks when big things happened to you, would you have any interesting rocks/experiences you’d like to share?
Here
are some
words you might not have seen before. (All definitions
from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary.)
Anticipation: The act of looking forward; especially a pleasurable expectation.
Assortment: A collection of various kinds of things or persons .
We really enjoyed reading this book. What was your favorite part?
There’s still time to leave suggestions for our next book! October’s book pick will be announced on Friday, October 1.
