Some time later, Bod visits Potter’s field, where suicides, thieves, and the unshriven are buried. He meets a witch named Liza, and tries to find her a headstone, as people buried in Potter’s Field don’t have markers for their graves. While he’s working on getting one, he runs into the Sleer again. He also has his first trip out into the world of the living–at it goes horribly wrong. But good news for Bod: He finally learns how to Fade.
Bod also attends a dance called the Macabray with the graveyard residents. When the winter blossoms bloom, the living cut flowers to give to the town’s residents. Then the living and the dead all dance together.
