BOOK NAME: The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn
AUTHOR: Dorothy and Thomas Hoobler

Seikei dreams of becoming a samurai, but he knows his fate cannot be like one of a samurai. Being a tea merchant’s son, he is expected to grow up and inherit his father’s trade. Living life by one day at a time, Seikei becomes familiar with the tea his father sells and almost gives up on his dream of being a samurai. Soon after, a ruby sent to the shogun (the military governor of Japan) is stolen by a ghost. Being the only witness, Seikei is required to assist the famous samurai magistrate, Judge Ooka, in his adventure to find the thief and return the ruby.

The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn is a book apart of the “Sleuth Puffin” group so it’s a mystery/adventure. This book was one I was to read for school. In full honesty, I read the summary on the back which covered most of the whole story like the paragraph above and I deeply sighed. A Japanese boy with a dream. A dream that couldn’t come true. Then something gets stolen and he has to help. So typical, right? After the second chapter in this book I kept reading and reading. I loved it so much! The storyline is admittedly common, but the authors, Dorothy and Thomas Hoobler, dazzled up the plot and the whole story came alive. No inappropriate content and a fabulous story! I suggest it to reading levels of 3rd grade and up!

    Oh mystery and adventure!
Most the books I read are adventure but I don’t usually read mystery (mostly because I’m impatient and hate suspense! whose with me?) but I love books with samurais and ghosts!

Hey Jindo encase you didn’t know I responded to you saying you will read Enders Game(best book ever!) and when you said books about building things I was confused but
I have a hunch you mean this type of book:

This is jindo2108 still, but my username is showing up weird.(again)
PurpleDragonWarrior- Yah, I looked at my comment and it was a bit confusing. Actually,I was talking about The Incident at Hawk’s Hill, saying that I hoped it wasn’t a book that was filled with descriptions on how the character put this peice of wood here, and some here, that kind of thing.

Hope i don’t confuse you again with this comment….

But then again,I might read some of those books you just listed!

I’ve read several of the books in the series. I like this book alot, I have a particular interest in martial arts and fuedal/tokugawa period Japan. If you read and like this book, I would recomend “Blood Ninja.” It’s similar in the fact that it’s about a boy who wants to become a samurai, but the plot is alot different. It’s kind of violent, and theres stuff about vampires, (it sounds weird but it’s good in the book) but it’s really cool.
Jindo2108, don’t worry, it’s not scary. The beginning is only a little bit creepy, but if you do get scared, by the end you’ll think it was silly of you.

Sounds good. It feels nice to take a break from your genre sometimes.sometimes I can watch the thriller in theaters without cowering, but I pretty much am a chicken when it comes to books that are thrillers
