Trek to Inle Lake

We left from the mountain village of Kalaw and began a 3 day trek to Inle Lake. Our guide Doh was really fun, our cook Ynoe made great food and our porter San was terrific. He carried my bag and helped Everest through the really muddy parts. Our first day we had lunch at a village home. They were wonderful even though we speak different languages.

After our special visit we hiked for another 3 hours and arrived at the village home where we spent the night. We had soft mats on the floor to sleep on. The bathroom was a little creepy. There were scorpions on the ground, a pig making all sorts of noises and it was pitch black. When we woke up we were served warm tea.

On the second day we trekked to a monastery where we spent the night. The trek to the monastery took 8 hours and was by far the hardest of all. The view from the monastery was beautiful. When we finally arrived we had a cup of tea and chilled. We had an early night because we knew the monks would start chanting at 5 in the morning. When the chanting started we heard snoring, and realized that Doh was still sleeping.

Following breakfast we hit the trail for the last time. We trekked through rice fields and pretty mountains. When we got to Inle Lake we took a long tail boat to our hotel. The boat ride was awesome. We passed houses on stilts in the middle of the lake, floating gardens, and Intha leg-rowing- fishermen.

When we arrived to our hotel we were sad to say good bye to Doh, Ynoe, and San.
