Steamy Sri Lanka

We entered Sri Lanka wondering if it could possibly be December 1st when it was 90 degrees outside. We drove to Kandy where we spent 2 wonderful nights in our own cabin above the lake.

We spent our first day at the botanical garden. Some of the trees in the gardens were 2 times older then America. The coolest part was the bat filled trees. There were hundreds of them hanging from the branches. It was awesome and creepy at the same time.

Later that evening we went to a Sri Lankan cultural show and the best
part was the fire portion. There were two men that rubbed fire all over
their bodies even their tongue. They also walked on burning embers so
hot that I could feel the heat 30 feet away.

We finished the night with a
big fruit platter filled with some of the best fruit I have had in my
whole life.

We woke up the next day and did some school rejoicing that we are
already half way through the school year. We left Kandy on the local
train to Ella. The scenery was beautiful with miles of tea plantations
and mountains.

We spent a few days hanging out and doing school. Our final day we took a
little tour of Ella. We went to a famous temple with a huge Buddha
carved in to the wall and that was pretty cool, then we went on a little
hike to a peak and hung some prayer flags for our friend Heather who is
fighting cancer with a lot of courage.

Our last stop was the Ella waterfall. We are now on our way to the beach where we hope to do a lot of swimming.
