Congratulations, you lucky kiddies!! :) I went on the HOEC Australia FOUR YEARS AGO! I’m a senior in high school now and graduation is in a month, but not a day goes by when I don’t think about all of the friends and memories I made with the HOEC. Remember to relish every moment of your amazing trip. :)

Hey everybody. In just a few weeks, the winners will be leaving for Montana. I am disappointed that I wont be one of the lucky 15, but my summer has been great! just yesterday I went hiking down a stretch of the Appalachian trail in Greenbrier State Park (its in western Maryland.) it was a 3 1/2 hike to a 60 foot high sandstone cliff called Annapolis rock. The view was breathtaking. It would be an excellent cliff to climb. I would upload some pics to Myshot, but my camera was broken months ago, and my dad doesn’t trust anyone with his camera. After the 3 1/2 miles back to the park, My family and I fished and swam in the lake that they have there. I had another adventure today. my older brother saw a dead fish on the shore of the river (potomac) that is near my house. What he described was like a 3 foot long sturgeon. There were sturgeons in the chesapeake bay once upon a time, but they are extinct due to over fishing. I went on a big solo expedition and found the remains of 7. There was a small mouth bass, and a lot of catfish. one catfish was humongous. I only found the head, but it was about the size of a cantaloupe. it could have been up to 35 pounds alive. I found the fish my brother described and , after some research, discovered it was a huge carp. I had no idea that there were carp in the river! Carp and snakeheads are two of the worst invasive species in america, and both come from asia. There is plenty to explore in your own backyards. Just remember that, anyone who will enter the HOEC in coming years. Later everybody!

They finally announced winners for Hawaii. I just wish they would include winners’ essays and pictures like they do for HOEC winners. It is really disappointing that they only gave us names and nothing else :-(

And yes, Carp are horrible. They ruin fishing trips! XD They kill all the fish you actually want to catch.
