We could see the Rocky Mountains from the window of our airplane as we arrived in Denver. We spent two great days exploring the city and then we went to the town of Golden for my cousin Ryan’s wedding. On the way we saw the Continental Divide, the line that divides the flow of water between the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean.
We had an awesome time seeing aunts, uncles, and cousins. The wedding was at a beautiful cathedral and the reception was super exciting. We danced until midnight (well most of us did.)
The next morning we went to Breckenridge, an awesome little mountain town. When we arrived a mining festival was going on and Everest and I
actually got to pan for gold and learn about the Gold Rush. We rode the
gondola and saw a fun park with a roller coaster, human maze, bungee,
and an alpine slide. We hiked up the mountain and there was still snow
which meant only one thing… Snow Ball Fight!
Our hotel had the best
family activity center. We made survival bracelets, friendship bracelets
and we learned how to mix music on a sound board. One of the coolest
activities was Family Iron Chef just like the show on Food Network. The
secret ingredient was a can of cranberries… oooooh. My family made
salmon cranberry bruschetta (yum), spicy cranberry tortellini (yummier),
and a fruit smoothie with cranberry (yummiest).
We went on tons of
hikes. My favorite hike was through a dense pine forest with a lookout
at the top of town and an alpine lake. On one hike we saw a mining shaft
used during the Gold Rush in the late 1800′s. Later in the week we
signed up for an awesome day camp.
We all loved Colorado, but we are off
to Michigan for more summer fun. I learned to wakeboard at my uncle’s
lake. I went to an incredible theater camp and performed in an 80′s
review with scenes from lots of movies and songs from the 80′s. We
visited an old lodge on Lake James in Indiana with my dad’s family. This
has been a family tradition since before I was born. This year we had a
hog roast with music and dancing. One of our last Midwest adventures
was a trip to Cedar Point, this awesome amusement park with insane
roller coasters faster than any I have ever been on in my entire life. I
loved spending time with my grandparents but I can’t wait for London
and to see my first Olympic games.
