Panama, Our Final Stop

Hello everyone in cyberspace. We've left Costa Rica and are now in Panama, in another cloud forest. We stayed at the Los Quetzales Lodge. When we got there, we met the owner named Carlos, who told us about the place and took us to see ten Labrador puppies that were only one month old. He let us play with them as much as we wanted, which was great. Later we went up to our cabin, which was out deep into the cloud forest. To get there, we needed a four-wheel drive because the road was so bumpy and full of huge potholes. The cabin was really cool because it had a wrap-around porch you could go out on to watch for animals and birds.

The next day, our guide Jonathan brought us out on a walk through the woods and we got to see plants, waterfalls, and birds. That night, we put some bananas out on the feeders and we got to see a few mammals we had never seen before--the cacomistles and kinkajous, when they came to feed. A cacomistle looks like a little tree raccoon and a kinkajou is unique. Not only did the kinkajou eat all the bananas off two feeders, as it that wasn't enough, it then drank everything from the hummingbird feeders!

Indian Ocean

Hi everyone! Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you like it.

We were just on a Lindblad/National Geographic boat called the Explorer for two weeks. We got to go see lemurs and giant tortoises and even red colibus monkeys. We also got to go snorkeling and see lots of great fish.

Photo: LemurThe lemurs were so cool and this one small little island we went to called Mayotte, had so many of them. I got to feed the lemurs and get them to come on my shoulder. They are so funny because they have a face like a dog with a little wet nose and sharp teeth.

We also got to go see the giant tortoises. They are so BIG that you can ride on them, but I didn't do that. They eat a huge amount of food, like vegetables and leaves. I love giant tortoises because they are so cute and you can feed and pet them. They really liked it when you rubbed them on the back of their neck.

As you might already know, I love monkeys and on this trip we saw more of them.  We got to see the red colibus monkey in Zanzibar. They are called red colibus monkeys because of their fur color. Colibus monkeys don't have an opposable thumb, so they mostly do stuff with just four fingers.

Tanzania

Hello everybody, we are now in Dar-es-Salam, Tanzania, where we are about to board the Lindblad ship called the National Geographic Explorer. We are traveling in the Indian Ocean, where we will visit the fabled islands of Mozambique, Zanzibar, the Comoros, and the Seychelles.

One of the things we got to do a lot of on this trip was snorkeling. Some of the reefs here don't have the amazing colors like the coral in some other places around the world, like Australia, because a few years ago they had a lot of coral bleaching. This was caused by a combination of global warming (the sea temperature getting warmer) and the tsunami from four years ago. The fish are amazing though and they have some of the coolest colors I've ever seen. We saw tons of tropical fish.

Australia

Photo: Happy Holidays from the reefHi everybody! Right now we are in Australia and we've been doing some really cool things since we got here.

First we flew into Brisbane and were met by our friends Dick and Liz. After spending the night with them, we went back to the airport early the next morning to take a plane to Hamilton Island. Once we got to Hamilton Island we headed to our resort to settle in.

The next day for breakfast we went to a place called the Koala Gallery where you can eat breakfast with koalas. It was really cool to be able to go get cereal or something to eat and pass koalas on your way. Later that day we went on a catamaran ride called "Adrenaline Sailing," where we got to literally hang out on wires over the water at really fast speeds. We also got to go and sit on a net in the front of the boat and we got totally splashed by the water and ended up soaking wet.

G'Day Mates!

G'Day Mates! I'm in Australia, land of the Aussies.

When we arrived in Australia, we were picked up at the airport by our friend Mr. Green. When we got to his house, we were excited to find out that they have a dog named Sebastian. Tyler and I can't wait to get a dog when we get home.

The next day we left Mr. & Mrs. Green's house to go to Hamilton Island. Hamilton Island is near the Great Barrier Reef. Half of the island is stores and restaurants and the other half has hotels, pools and a beach. The first thing we did was go to the pool because it's really hot here in Australia because it is their summer, even though it is December.

In the morning we went to a breakfast and ate with koalas. Koalas aren't really bears, they're just koalas. They're really cute but they're usually not doing much ... they sleep for 20 hours a day!

Another thing we did this day was a catamaran ride around the island. On the catamaran we got to ride on "the trapeze," which meant we were hanging off the side of the boat by a wire. It's really hard to explain, so look at this picture...
