Swindle

SwindleBOOK NAME: Swindle
AUTHOR: Gordon Korman

Hi, it's Reed again. I'm going to tell you about a book called Swindle.

It started when Griffin and Ben had a sleepover at the old house. Griffin found a Babe Ruth card (by the way, Babe Ruth is one of the all-time best baseball players ever!). The card was worth millions of dollars, but he didn't know that. He knew the card would be worth some money, but didn't realize how much! It would help his family be able to keep their house.

He goes to a card store and a cashier tells him that it's worth $120.00. Griffin says "fine." Griffin never knew that the cashier cheated him.

You have to read the rest to find out if he gets the card back or if he gets millions of dollars or if he doesn't. I'll give you a hint: there's a lot of police, a robbery, and a dog chase.

This book is for 8 and 9 year olds. I hope you read the book because it has a lot of twists and turns. I read it so fast that my brain was full of facts. It's a good action book. If want this book you can go to Barnes and Noble. I hope you read it!

Double Identity

BOOK NAME: Double Identity
AUTHOR: Margaret Peterson-Haddix

Double Identity Book Cover    This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. It's a mystery that has lots of secrets. Bethany is the main character of the book. She is a normal 13 year old with a normal life until one night her parents drive her to another state to stay with an aunt and cousin she never knew she had. Her parents made sure she was OK, and left. She wouldn't see them again for several months.

Her dad calls every so often to check on Bethany and talk to her aunt. He seems to be running away from somebody, but Bethany doesn't know who. While she is staying with her aunt, some strange things happen. The people from the town act very weird as if they have seen a ghost. She gets a package containing lots of money and four different birth certificates. She also finds a bunch of home videos of her mom and dad and a little girl who looks exactly like her, but was born several years earlier. And then, her aunt and cousin tell her who she really is.

The reason that her parents have left her is that she must be protected at all costs. The people looking for her would surely find her if she had stayed with them. Once the secrets come out, she realizes there is no one in the world like her.

There are lots of secrets and twists in this book.  It is really fun to piece together the details of this book and see if you can guess the real story of Bethany...if that is her real name!

Book Series: Horrorland
Author: R.L. Stine

Haunted Mask book coverReady to get spooked? If you haven't read one of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps books yet, it's time to enter Horrorland.  This is a brand-new series that features 12 books. Each one is its own creepy story. In The Scream of the Haunted Mask (pictured), Carly Beth endures a frightful night with a drooling, haunted mask that makes its scary return.

There are great names for the other books, too like Creep from the Deep and Monster Blood for Breakfast. Each one is a perfect pick for Halloween.

Running Out of Time

BOOK NAME: Running Out of Time
AUTHOR: Margaret Peterson Haddix

runningoutoftime.jpg     Jessie is a girl who lives in the 1860s where all of the kids in Clifton, Indiana have been diagnosed with a deadly disease called diphtheria. The problem is that nobody has the right cure, so Jessie's mom has to tell her the truth: They don't actually live in the 1860's and have been living in a tourist exhibit in 1996. Mr. Clifton, the man who runs the exhibit, wasn't giving Clifton the right medicine that they needed so Jessie's mom sends her out of Clifton to find a man named Mr. Neeley who will help the people of the town. What will Jessie do to save her friends, and will she risk her life?

I would give this book a four out of five because I liked how interesting and unique it is to live in a tourist exhibit. It's cool seeing Jessie try to figure out the 1996 world around her like getting used to light bulbs and cars. The book had a great beginning and middle but an ending that I thought was just okay. I really enjoyed Jessie's escape from Clifton.

If you are interested in science fiction and historical fiction than this is the right book for you. Other books that Margaret Peterson Haddix has written are The Shadow Kids series, Double Identity, and The Lost Book Found.

I hope that you have been inspired by my review and will consider reading the book, Running Out Of Time.
