He ends up getting the wrong card, though. It is a picture of a man who is holding a baby. That is when Charlie discovers that he is Endowed!
Charlie has the power to see and hear what is going on in pictures. In the picture that he is holding, the man and woman who are taking the photo are fighting about what to do with their orphan niece. The woman wants to keep her while the man does not. Charlie is very puzzled, but doesn’t know the dark secret, behind this photo.
Grandma Bone has been waiting for Charlie to get his powers. Charlie’s father was Endowed but he died in a deadly car crash, so Grandma Bone is so excited when she finds out that Charlie is finally Endowed. Grandma Bone calls her sisters over to see if Charlie is worthy to go to school at Bloor’s Academy. All Endowed children go there along with good musicians, artists and actors. Charlie is heartbroken that he has to leave his best friend Benjamin behind but on the bright side, he gets to come home for the weekends.

Shark Wars
BOOK NAME: Shark Wars
AUTHOR: EJ Altwater
What’s up readers, I’m back with another action packed review. This book really has some bite. I hope you enjoy my review.
This book starts on the warm Caribbean waters. Grey and his best friend Barkley are going to school for another boring day in their opinion. But Grey runs into some trouble on his way back and ends getting banished from his shiver (group). When Grey is banished, Barkley goes with him. But the rouge pair ends up running into other rogue Sharks.
Snork, Striiker, Mari, Shell, Barkley and Grey end up making their own shiver. But they end up wandering into another the Goblin shiver’s home waters. The Goblin shiver is led by Goblin (unique name, huh?). They are at war with the Razor shiver. They are forced into joining this shiver. Grey loves it in the Goblin shiver because he is treated great by Goblin. But then Barkley overhears some of Goblin’s line (the line is like the right-hand man except there are 5 of them) talking about using Grey for battle. Will Barkley end up saving Grey or will Grey be sucked into Goblin’s plan? I can’t tell you the end, because I don’t want to ruin the book for you.
P.S. Did I mention that this book is about sharks? No, I mean it’s actually ABOUT sharks! Grey and all his friends are sharks!
This book is for advanced 5th graders and up and it’s pretty good. Well, it was fun making this review so I hope you enjoy it. See you later.
Guardians of Ga’Hoole: The Capture
BOOK NAME: Guardians of Ga’Hoole: The Capture
AUTHOR: Kathryn Lasky
Hello readers, how are you all? I sure know that I’m good. I’m here to
tell you about the first book in an amazing series. You may have heard
of the movie Legend of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole…well, that’s
based on the first three books of a 14-book series. I haven’t quite
gotten through all of them yet – I’ve only read the first two, but I’m
going to keep reading the series. Did I mention that the series is all
about owls? Talking owls. And they wear battle armor.
Enough of this introduction! On to the review…
The first book in the Guardians of Ga’Hoole series is called The Capture.
It starts when there is an egg hatching at Soren”s hollow. Soren is the
main character in the book and he has an older brother named Kludd who
really isn’t the nicest owl. He is pretty mean to Soren. There is also
a nest maid in the family. A nest maid is a snake that is born blind
and they serve for barn owls. Her name is Mrs. P and the owl family
loves her. Eglantine is the owl that’s hatched and Soren loves his new
sister with all of his heart. When Soren somehow falls out of his nest,
Kludd refuses to help him and he threatens to eat Mrs. P so nobody can
help Soren. His parents won’t be back from their hunting trip for a few
more weeks.
Soren is then snatched by St. Aggie’s patrols. The patrols are looking
to capture any and all owls who fall from their hollows because they
want to make them their slaves. On his way to St. Aggie’s, he becomes
friends with a little Elf Owl named Gylfie. St. Aggies’s is a horrible
place for Owls and Book 1 is about how Soren and Gylfie try to escape.
I’m not going to tell you exactly what happens…you are going to have
to get the book to find out what happens next. This is a really good
adventure book…sort of like an IndiOWL Jones. Get it?
See ya next time. Reed OUT!

Liar, Liar
BOOK NAME: Liar, Liar
AUTHOR: Gary Paulsen
What’s up my readers? How are you all doing? I know I’m good. Today I get the honor to tell you about Gary Paulsen’s book, Liar, Liar. As you know, I love Gary Paulsen and this just adds to his long list of great books. I really enjoyed it and hope you enjoy this review.
This time, Paulsen came up with a great book for kids between ages 10 and 13. Liar, Liar is about a boy named Kevin who is great at telling lies and he uses his gift for bad things. It all started when Mr. Crosby assigned him a project. This project was to be done with assigned partners and Kevin got the worst partner, Katie. He didn’t want to work with her so he told her that he had some crazy disease and it would be mean to make her work with him.
In his mind, he is a really good liar. But what happens throughout the book is that his lies become bigger and bigger until he is in a very tough situation. All of a sudden he has made all of these lies to all of these different people and has a lot of explaining to do.
Most of his lying is because of this girl in his school named Tina, who he has a crush on. He makes up excuses and lies to get out of class so he can see her. And when he is finally with Tina it doesn’t look too good because of all of his lies that he told.
I think that if you liked Mudshark by Gary Paulsen then you will love Liar, Liar. They’re both great comedies.
Well guys, that is all that I’m going to tell you. See ya!
The Titan’s Curse
BOOK NAME: The Titan’s Curse
AUTHOR: Rick Riordan
How is everyone doing? I’ve got another Percy Jackson blog for you. I hope you enjoy this one.
The book starts off with Percy’s mom driving Thalia, Annabeth, and Percy to a school were Grover had reported that he had found a half-blood. When they got to the school there was a school dance going on. Thalia used some sort of “Jedi Mind Trick” on an instructor so they could get in the school. Once they got in they found Grover and he pointed out the two half-bloods. Their names were Bianca and Nico–brother and sister.
Percy, Thalia and Annabeth had to blend in with everyone else by dancing to get to Nico and Bianca. They all got separated from each other at the dance, and then something weird happened and they ended up in the forest. Once they regrouped, they figured out that the same instructor that they had tricked had done this and he had Nico and Bianca captured. Then the instructor flicked his tail and spikes came flying at Percy and his friends. Wait! he has a tail and that can only mean one thing: the instructor is a monster.
You guys have to read to find out what happens and what I’ve told you is really important to the rest of the book, so keep that in mind. This is one of the best books in the series. I hope that you guys think the same thing. Well guys I got to go, so until next time, bye!
E-Readers: nook vs. Kindle
A bunch of you are probably thinking: “But wait! You’ve already done a review of the Barnes and Noble nook.” But this review is going to be a little bit different. I’m going to compare two of the top e-Readers: The Barnes and Noble nook and Amazon’s Kindle.
First up is the nook. I’m going to bounce back and forth between nook and Kindle, and I’m going to ask the same question for both. I interviewed my Dad for the nook because he has one. And I interviewed my friend Noah who got a Kindle for Christmas.
REED: How do you control everything?
DAD: There’s a small touch screen at the bottom of the nook. This is where you push and slide-around to find everything you need – sort of like an iPhone or iPad. The touch screen controls everything on the larger screen above, including your shelves of books, selecting what you want to read, as well as the B&N store, games and web browser that are all on the nook. There are two buttons on each side of the nook so you can turn the pages forward or backward and use whichever hand is most comfortable. Probably the coolest feature of the touch screen is that you can slide your finger forward or back to turn the pages instead of using the buttons.
NOAH: You have a keyboard, two buttons to turn the page, there are four arrow keys, one for up, down, and side to side. There is a button in between the arrow keys to select stuff. Like the nook, the Kindle has two buttons on the side to turn the page. There is no touch screen.
REED: What options do you have from the main menu?
DAD: From the nook’s main menu, you can get to your library of books and magazines, a selection of daily blogs, the nook store, Sudoku and Chess games, a web browser and all of your device settings, like turning on and off wireless.
NOAH: You have the option to turn wireless wifi on or off. You have a web browser. You can get small board games. You can buy books on the Kindle from either Kindle.com or Amazon. It depends on which Kindle you have. You can also share your books with other Kindle users.
REED: Is there a nook/Kindle app for the iPod, iPhone or iPad?
DAD: Yep. You can access your nook library from any device, including iPod (REED: I use the nook app on the iPod Touch I got for Christmas!), iPhone and iPad as well as Blackberry phones (which I sometimes use), and your desktop computer.
NOAH: Yes. It isn’t as good as the actual Kindle.
All in all, I think both of these e-Readers are very good and are neck-to-neck. Barnes and Noble probably has a slight advantage due to their new Nook Color. I can’t tell you too much more because I don’t have one. I would recommend the nook because it’s very simple and the touch screen makes everything easier.
Thank you guys for reading this. I hope you enjoyed this blog. This was a very fun review for me because I got to interview Noah at school. If you want to see another interview, check out when I interviewed the famous kids author Gary Paulsen. You can read it here.
(AD) Check out National Geographic Kids magazine on the nook!
The Sea of Monsters
BOOK NAME: The Sea of Monsters
AUTHOR: Rick Riordan
Hola, boys and girls how are you? I know I’m good. A lot of people liked Parker’s review so I’m going to do one to. If you want to check out his review, click here. I liked this book because there is a lot of action and adventure, which are my favorite books. I hope you like my review.
The story starts off when Percy is having a nightmare at his mom’s house in Manhattan. Percy and Grover (Percy’s best friend) have this sort of link that whenever Grover is in trouble Percy can see what is going on in his dreams. Grover went out on a quest to find the wild god Pan like all satyrs do (Satyrs are a mix of goat and human). Grover was in Miami in Percy’s dream running from something while murmuring, “Have to get away, have to warn them.” Percy didn’t know whom Grover wanted to warn but had a feeling that it was the entire camp half-blood.
It turns out that a Cyclops named Polyphemus that lives on an island in the Sea of Monsters has taken Grover prisoner. Grover’s warning was a message for help.
Camp half-blood is for demi-gods. Demi-gods are people who are half god half human. In Percy’s case his father is Poseidon, god of the sea.
I can’t tell our much more because I would be a spoiler. I really enjoyed writing this one so you guys and girls could compare it to Parker’s. I hope you guys and girls do. Well I’ve got to wrap it up so see you later!
The Strange Case of Origami Yoda
BOOK NAME: The Strange Case of Origami Yoda
AUTHOR: Tom Angleberger
Hi guys, I’m back. I read a book that was just hysterical: The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. I think that you guys are going to like this book.
This book is about a kid named Dwight who is the strangest kid ever. He made this origami Yoda and he puts it on his finger and walks around school like that. Origami Yoda starts to give advice to people about their personal problems. Dwight puts Origami Yoda up to his ear and Yoda “whispers” the advice and then Dwight says the advice in a Yoda accent.
Tommy is the main character in the book and he wants to get to the bottom of this, so he starts a file and asks people who got advice from Origami Yoda to write a paper to add to his file. The whole book you are reading are the papers from Tommy’s file. It is very interesting.
One of the stories in the file is about Tommy’s best friend who doesn’t believe in Origami Yoda so he makes another Origami Yoda. Dwight’s Yoda says that there will be a battle of the Origami Yodas. You are going to have to read the book to find out what happens next but I guarantee you that you are going to be surprised at what happens next.
Thanks for reading my review I hope that you enjoyed it. I know I did. Thanks again, and bye! See you next time!
The Rivalry
BOOK NAME: The Rivalry
AUTHOR: John Feinstein
Hey, I’m back. I’m writing about a mystery book. I liked this book because it also involves sports. It is a series of books; all have something to do with sports. It’s about two teenagers who are reporters for two different newspapers. Stevie and Susan Carol are their names.
They were both invited to the Army vs. Navy game, which is a big football rivalry. The game would take place in D.C. Each reporter would each be assigned a team to cover. Stevie went to West Point to check out Army and Susan Carol hade to go to Annapolis, Maryland to see the Naval Academy.
When the game day finally came the refs were not being fair and both coaches were REALLY mad. It turns out the same refs were at he previous game for both teams and weren’t being very fair in those either. Can Susan Carol and Stevie get to the bottom of this? I can’t tell you that. You are going to have to read the book to find out. I think that if you like mystery or sports or both then this is the book for you. I recommend this book for kids 10-13. It keeps you up all night because you just can’t put it down.
Thanks for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Until next time: Hasta la vista amigos.
Ender’s Game
BOOK NAME: Ender’s Game
AUTHOR: Orson Scott Card
Hey guys. How are you all doing today? I know I’m happy. I am going to tell about one of my favorite books. It is called Ender’s Game. I think that this book is appropriate for 11 year olds through young adults
Ender is the main character in this book. His real name is Andrew but people call him Ender because he is a third child. There is a law that says you can only have two children but Peter (Enders brother) did so well in battle school that the government thought he would be the next great commander so they let the Wiggins have a third child because they thought that Ender would also be a great commander. It turns out Peter was too violent and Ender was just right.
Ender needs to save the world from the alien Buggers just as Mazer Rackham did about 70 years ago during their second invasion. He killed the Queen bugger. He also is Enders teacher at commander school. He teaches all of the kids who generals think have a chance at being the next commander of their fleet. Ender is the last child Mazer will be able to train before the third invasion which is coming soon. Everybody hopes that Ender is the next great commander.
Can Ender save the world? Will he ever get to see his family again? You have to read this book to find out. The book is part of a series. A very long series that is. It is so long that even today Orson Scott Card is still working on the last book. Have a nice day everybody and make sure you check under your bed for Buggers. I know I will.
Masters of Disaster
BOOK NAME: Masters of Disaster
AUTHOR: Gary Paulsen
Hey guys it’s me Reed. This time I’ve got an action and comedy book. Gary Paulsen is an amazing author, and you can read my interview with him. In this book he’s just amazing.
Henry, Reed, and Riley are best friends. Henry is the leader of the three. He also comes up with some of the most wacky ideas ever. He always uses Reed as a test dummy. Riley is always doing the research and he also is always prepared.
Here is an example of a crazy idea Henry came up with. A house in their neighborhood is perfect for an extremely high bike jump, and it also has a pool. The owners of it happen to be out. So Henry decides he’s going to try for a world’s record. He dresses Reed up in a lot of protection and even ties his hands to the handle bars. Riley says Reed can ride down the roof, hit the diving board and bounce really really high. He hits the diving board perfect on the first try. On the second bounce after hitting the diving board, he skids off at a 45 degree angle and slides into the back alleyway where he runs into about 4 trash cans. He got covered in baby diapers. And as Reed says later in the book: “The smell doesn’t come off. It gets worse.”
The book isn’t about one single story. It’s a mix of different stories like the one above.
This is another masterpiece by Gary Paulsen. You should definitely read it. And it’s not very long, only 102 pages!
Mockingjay
BOOK NAME: Mockingjay
AUTHOR: Suzanne Collins
A mockingjay is a mix of a mockingbird and a bird from the fictional future called a jabberjay. A jabberjay was a bird that could bring messages because it could talk by memorizing the words people said. The Capitol created the jabberjay to use it as a spy against the Districts because they were afraid the Districts would start an uprising and attack the Capitol. In the Hunger Games world, these mixed animals are called “mutations.”
Katniss Everdeen won the 74th Hunger Games and became a national hero. She wore a pin of a mockingjay throughout her the Games. The mockingjay became the symbol of a new rebellion against the Capitol.
In “Mockingjay” which is the final book of the Hunger Games trilogy, Katniss Everdeen is living in the underground city of District 13. At the end of book two, Catching Fire, nobody won the 75th Hunger Games because the rebels in District 13 saved Katniss and some of her allies by helping them escape from the games. But they did not save Peeta, her fiancé. She is very sad and upset that the Capitol has captured him and they’re using him against her.
There’s another Hunger Games in this book, but it’s doesn’t take place in the arena. The book is really about how Katniss fights against the Capitol and tries rescue and fix Peeta. Most of the characters from the previous books are back, like Katniss’ allies Finnick, Johanna, and Beetee (who’s my favorite character), her sister Prim and her ugly cat Buttercup, her friend Gale, and of course Haymitch and Effie, her prep team, but sadly not Cinna.
I can’t tell you anymore because I don’t want to give it away. Sorry, folks!
This book is probably the best of the series. You have to read the other two in order to understand this one. This is a book for anyone above 10 years old. My Dad’s even reading the series, and that’s a good sign.
Until next time…seeya!
Catching Fire
BOOK NAME: Catching Fire
AUTHOR: Suzanne Collins
Have you read The Hunger Games? If you haven’t, read the review before reading this one, because this is the sequel.
Okay… now that you’re caught up, let me remind of what happened in the first book. Katniss and Peeta won the Hunger Games and went back to District 12. Now they live in Victors Village next to Haymitch who was their mentor during the Games. Because they won the Hunger Games, they’re going to be mentors for the next tributes from District 12.
The Quarter Quell is coming up. Every 25 years, they do something special to the games. The last Quarter Quell they doubled the amount of tributes from each district. And that was the year that District 12′s very own Haymitch won the games.
Katniss and her family sit down in front of their TV to see President Snow announce the Quarter Quell and he says that one male and one female of all of the surviving tributes from each district will go back into the games. Katniss is shocked because she’s the only female winner from her district and she’s going to have to go back to the games.
“Anger.” That’s what all the districts are feeling right now. They’re very angry at the Capital. The Capital isn’t treating them fairly. The Hunger Games are getting out of control, and there are too many deaths. The first uprising – a group of people going against the Capital-happens in District 8.
Katniss doesn’t know what’s going to happen at the end of these hunger games, and she also knows that things are growing out of control in the Districts.
Be sure and read the third book in the series, Mockingjay. It’s even more shocking than the first two! Thanks for reading the review. Until next time-which will probably be for Mockingjay. Bye!
National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011
BOOK NAME: National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011
AUTHOR: National Geographic
Hey guys! Nice to see you again. I hope you enjoy my review on the National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011. This book has some of the most amazing pictures ever, and great details.
You can read about all sorts of different animals…from polar bears to green sea turtles and everything in between. There’s information about endangered species and some of the most awkward animals I’ve ever seen. For example, the horse-zebra named Eclyse. It’s solid white in the middle and on the legs. But on the head and near the butt it’s brown with black stripes. You can find a section about albino animals…which are white animals with red eyes-there’s a picture of an albino alligator, and a wallaby.
They have a section on Going Green-by helping the environment. For example, the book has information on conserving electricity and planting trees which gives us more oxygen.
At the end, you can read about future possibilities like a 3D magazine, a hotel in space, and robots.
The other chapters include Your World 2011, Super Science, Geography Rocks, History Happens, Culture Connection, Awesome Adventure, and Wonders of Nature.
There’s no sports section, which disappoints me a little bit. I liked the animal pictures the most, and I would definitely recommend this book.
Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer
BOOK NAME: Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer
AUTHOR: John Grisham
I had a summer book review due for school. I liked Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer so much I picked this one for the book review. And you know how much I read!
This book is about a 13-year-old kid who wants to be a lawyer and he’s already almost as smart as a one. He’s always in the courtroom in his hometown because his parents are lawyers and that’s where he wants to be. Also, he sometimes handles small cases for the kids in his class, and even argues for them in court (things like problems with their pets).
There’s about to be a huge case about a murder. The judge case let’s Theo’s Government class sit in the bleachers for the first session. The case is about a man who murdered his wife. His lawyer is the best defense lawyer in the town and it looks like the suspect is about to get away.
It turns out that one of the kids that Theo tutors at the homeless shelter has a cousin who was an eyewitness to the murder. BUT, the eyewitness is an illegal immigrant so he doesn’t want to tell anyone because he’s afraid he’ll be arrested and sent back to his home country.
Theo has to find a way to help the cousin step forward without getting arrested. The rest of the story is about how Theo has to solve the case before the suspect is set free.
This is a great book for 3rd grade and above. It’s not that long and I loved it.
Middleworld
BOOK NAME: Middleworld (Jaguar Stones Trilogy Book One)
AUTHOR: Jon and Pamela Voelkel
Hi guys, it’s me again. This time I got an action packed adventure book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s called Middleworld. It’s about a boy named Max (which is short for Massimo) whose parents are archeologists and go to San Xavier because of a very important dig. They wouldn’t let Max come, but the housekeeper was told to buy Max a ticket to San Xavier. That’s when the adventure kicks in.
Max flew in to stay with his Mom and Dad but they couldn’t come to pick him up so they sent one of their workers, Oscar. Oscar brought Max to a bus that took him to the place where his Uncle Ted would pick him up. His Uncle works in the banana business. This is the start of Max’s adventure of a lifetime.
On his adventure to find his parents he meets a few friends, including Lola, who is Mayan and lives in the jungle. Lola’s eccentric friend was working with Max’s parents when they disappeared. Lola’s friend said that his parents got transported to the Mayan Underworld.
You may be wondering about the Jaguar Stones mentioned in the title. Well, there are five of them and they all have powers that are very strong. They can even heal themselves if they get chipped or broken. There are five pyramids that the stones belong in. Each stone has a matching pyramid. A long time ago there were five kings and each one had a stone. The stones were lost and some people have them and are trying to keep it a secret.
Max is trying to find the stone that will help him get to the Underworld and find his parents.
This book has action, adventure and a little bit of mystery. This is one of the best books I’ve ever done a review on. I recommend this book for everyone.
Bye ’til next time!
Sports Camp
BOOK NAME: Sports Camp
AUTHOR:
Rich Wallace
How was your summer? I know mine was great…especially with all of my books. This book is a great to read during the summer, especially if you’re at camp, because it’s about a summer camp.
If you like sports, then this is the perfect book for you. The kids Camp Olympia split into six cabins and those are the teams for the tournaments during the camp. The main events are Basketball, Softball and Water Polo. Riley’s an underdog and definitely not a star. But in one of the sports he comes up big.
The swimming and water polo events take place at Lake Surprise. It’s called Lake Surprise because Big Joe the snapping turtle lives there. There are rumors that Big Joe, has attacked and even killed people at the lake.
At the end of every chapter there’s a bulletin page for the camp, which is the daily news for the camp. It shows the results for the sports and the scores and a list of upcoming events and sometimes new rules.
I really hope you get this book and enjoy it. It took me less than two days to read, so it’s a good book if you’re looking for a quick read.
Gregor the Overlander
BOOK NAME: Gregor the Overlander: Book One in the Underland Chronicles
AUTHOR: Suzanne Collins
Hey guys, it’s me again! I’m going to tell you about one of the coolest books ever–Gregor the Overlander.
Gregor’s father had disappeared a few years ago and he never showed up again. Gregor lives with his Mom, his grandma who calls him “Simon” (she’s nuts!), and his two sisters, Boots and Lizzy.
The story started when Gregor had to babysit is baby sister, Boots. He went to go do the laundry like his Mom told him. But all of a sudden, he couldn’t find Boots. He looked through a pile of laundry and he found this hole. He fell into it and found Boots at the bottom.
They found themselves stuck under the city of New York. Giant cockroaches found them and took them to main city of the Underland. One of the city’s rulers named Vikus tells Gregor that his father once fell down into Underland. So Gregor now has to find his father and convince the Underlanders to help him find a way out.
The journey that has so many twists and turns that you just can’t put the book down. There are 311 pages and I read the whole book in less than a week.
The Red Pyramid
BOOK NAME: The Red Pyramid
AUTHOR: Rick Riordan
It started off when my Mom brought me home a book order from school (she’s a teacher there). I decided to get a Gary Paulsen book called Caught by the Sea: My Life on Boats and The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. I wanted The Red Pyramid because it looked like it had some cool adventure. Everyday after school, I’d ask my Mom, “Did it come? Did it come?” It took a while for it to finally come because it hadn’t even been published yet! It finally came in the middle of one school day and I started reading it that night.
The story’s narrators switch off between the two main characters, Carter and Sadie. Carter and Sadie’s mom died when they were young so Sadie had to go live with her grandparents on her mom’s side of the family. Carter lived with his dad who’s an archaeologist, but they only went to visit Sadie twice a year. Carter was named after Howard Carter, who discovered King Tut’s tomb (if you want to learn more about King Tut and mummies, read Braden’s review of the book Mummies).
Carter and Sadie’s dad takes them to the British Museum in London, where they see the Rosetta Stone, a famous archaeological discovery. He tells them to stay in an office, but when they leave the office they find their dad doing something that looks like magic. It turns out to be that he’s summoning gods from the Rosetta Stone. One of the gods puts their dad into a coffin which then sinks into the ground.
The rest of the story is about how the kids, along with their uncle Amos, try to find their dad. It’s story is full of twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
It’s really for advanced readers who are 8 and 9 and other readers who are 10-12. It’s sort of like The Lightning Thief where there are gods in modern times. You should definitely get this book. It may take you a while to read because it’s 514 pages long, but it’s definitely worth it.
Until next time…SEEYA!
BOOK NAME: Bunnicula
AUTHOR: Deborah and James Howe
I’m back with a book called Bunnicula. This is a series of books, so if you read this one, I think you’ll like the others.
It’s about this family that goes to the movie Dracula and they find this bunny in the movie theater. They take it home and they name it Bunnicula.
This story is mainly about this cat named Chester and a dog named Harold. Chester likes to read and Harold is pretty much just a dog – he likes to sleep.
Some strange stuff starts happening. At the house where Bunnicula lives, all of the vegetables start turning white. But nothing else…just the vegetables! Chester starts being suspicious (Harold…not so much). Chester reads a vampire book and Bunnicula matches every single thing about a vampire. Harold and Chester come up with a plan…
I’m not going to tell you the rest…because I want you to read it. This time, I’m going to do something different. If you’ve read the book, tell me who’s your favorite character and why. My favorite character is Harold the dog because he does all these flopsy things…he sneaks into the pantry and steals a chocolate cupcake (his favorite).
If you haven’t read the book, tell me if you think you’ll read it.
See you next time!
Versus: Warriors
BOOK NAME: Versus: Warriors
CONCEPT: Hannah Wilson
ILLUSTRATOR: Steve Stone
This is definitely not a regular book. It’s about Warriors…not present-day warriors, but warriors from back in time. For example, one of the warriors is the Knight, who had heavy armor, a long sword and a helmet with a facemask. Knights fought from 800 A.D. to about 1500 A.D.
The book is not a story, but it’s about 10 different kinds of favorite warriors. The warriors are Viking, Samurai, Zulu, Gladiatrix (a female Gladiator), Mongolian, Ninja, Gladiator, Aztec, Knight, and Spartan. In the book they pick two different warriors and they have a battle. They talk about the warriors and then you have to pick which you think would win. One of the pages tells about the different warriors so you can make a choice. The next page tells you who would win and why, and then another page tells you more about the winning warrior and then the losing warrior.
My favorite battle was the Mongolian versus the Spartan. I like the Mongolian and the Spartan and it was one of the closest battles. I’m not going to tell you who wins though.
At the end, there’s one overall winner. And the winner is…
You have to get the book to see who’s the Ultimate Warrior.
BOOK NAME: Oceans
AUTHOR: Johnna Rizzo
Hey guys, sorry I haven’t written a blog lately. I’ve been busy visiting Mrs. Obama at the White House. But you’re gonna see a lot more books out of me. I’ve been reading a lot more books than ever. And exercising more than ever too!
I like this book because of the great photography and all of the fun facts that they put into the book. They have all types of animals: from jellyfish to stingrays to sharks.
For an example of some of the great photography, there’s a picture of a bunch of manta rays opening up their mouths getting ready to chomp on a snack of krill and plankton, and you can see right into their mouths and see their ribs.
They also have fun facts of all the types of the animals. For example, for the whales they tell you all about these different whales: the narwhal, minke, sperm, blue, right and bowhead. I never knew that the male narwhal had the long horns on their heads and their horn is actually a tooth!
People will like this book if you love nature and photography and beautiful fish and sea creatures. This book is great if you want to be a photographer someday.
(AD) Find out how to get Oceans at the National Geographic Store.
E-Reader: The Barnes & Noble nook
The nook is an electronic book where you can download books for cheaper than at the stores. You can download books or newspapers and read them in the “My Library” section on your nook. You can buy cases and different screen savers also.
You get the books by either looking them up on the nook by title or author or you can look on the Barnes and Noble website and they have a section for eBooks. When you find a book that you like, you can download a sample for free, which is the first couple of pages and if you like it, you just click on “buy now”. It takes about a minute for the book to get on your nook. Then you click on “Check for new Barnes and Noble Content” and the books get there by a wireless internet connection.
You can get kids books and ones for adults. The nook is my Dad’s, but I have some books on it. I’ve read Arabian Nights on the nook and I might even review it here.
On the Barnes and Noble website, you can make a wish list where you put all your books that you hope to get and you can save up your money to buy them.
My favorite part of the nook was exploring it when you first get it.
Speed Machines
BOOK NAME: Speed Machines
AUTHOR: Miranda Smith
It’s me again!
This time I’m going to write about a book called Speed Machines. It has all these motorized vehicles like cars, boats, airplanes and even bicycles.
My favorite section is about Cruise Boats. It shows the inside of the Voyager of the Seas cruise ship. It has an ice rink, miniature golf course, sport courts, theaters and a lot of other cool things. My parents once went on this ship!
There’s a picture of a car underwater. It’s unique because it can ride underwater and on land. The picture has two guys driving the car, wearing SCUBA masks connected to the car. And it’s a convertible! There’s no top!
The book is a big picture book with a lot of articles. I liked how much information it had. It shows all kinds of records like the fastest ride on the moon was 10.53 miles per hour. The “fastest man on earth” was Captain John Stapp of the U.S. Air Force. In 1954 he rode a rocket-propelled sled built out of welded tubes. He set a record of 6,402 miles per hour.
I recommend this book for everyone.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
BOOK NAME: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
AUTHOR: Retold from the Mark Twain original by Oliver Ho
Note: this is from the Classic Starts series from Sterling Publishing
Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer are best friends. They have so many adventures. But this one takes place with one of Huck’s friends Jim.
Huck found treasure with Tom Sawyer in a cave, which they stole from Injun’ Joe, a thief, which you might have heard about in my other review. He ends up living with a wealthy family. Huck’s real dad came and took him away because he thought that Huck was showing off and being better than him. His life in his dad’s small cabin was horrible so he cuts a hole in the cabin to escape. To trick his dad and make him think that he’d been killed, he puts an axe in the door and a gun on the ground and pig’s blood all over the place.
Huck runs away to a small island. His friend Jim is on that island because he thought that Huck was killed and he was very upset.
They go on adventures together like almost getting crushed in the wheels of a giant paddleboat and living on a raft with two frauds that cheat people just to get money.
And that’s all I’m going tell you because it’s a really really good book. It has a ton of adventures and Tom Sawyer will show up.
