When we got to the zoo, there were all these people who were trying to sell us stuff. If you ever go to China and people try to sell you something you don't want, you just say "boo yow,"which means, "I don't want." Once we got into the zoo, the first pandas we saw were red pandas, which look a little like raccoons. The second panda we saw was amazing and cute. It was still a baby! Actually, for 14 months old, it wasn't THAT small. The panda can go inside a little house with air conditioning when it gets too humid out. Pandas can get sick in the heat. The zookeeper carried the panda out of the house and was playing with him. It was so cute! I took around 37 pictures of one panda in 15 minutes and this video.
We also went to an art gallery at the zoo. We saw this artist paint a picture of his friend. He had to be careful and paint it just right because the paint that he was using is very special. It was made out of oil and plants. It's not like ordinary paint, where you can paint over it if you make a mistake. The painter was using very fine rice paper. They told us that the artist had worked on one painting for three years in order to get it perfect. After the artist finished with his painting, Tyler and I got a chance to paint with the special paint. It was very hard. I made a mistake myself when I dropped the paintbrush, but I made it part of the picture.
From the zoo, we went on a cruise ship, where we stayed for the next three nights. We went on the Yangtze River. The river was really brown and muddy, but the mountains were pretty. One day in the afternoon, we went on the top deck to fly a kite, which was really fun. The Chinese make beautiful kites out of bamboo and really thin paper. As a special souvenir, we bought a kite shaped like a bird. I can't wait to fly it when we get back! Our last stop in China was Shanghai, which is a really big city. The best thing we did in Shanghai was go to an acrobatic show. China is famous for having really great acrobats. The coolest act involved a huge, round, metal cage and guess what was in that cage? Eight people on motorcycles at the same time! The cage wasn't that big, but eight people fit into it. Imagine eight people riding motorcycles around in a small round cage really fast without crashing. It was spectacular! Just like the rest of China!
Now we're off to Japan.
