Aussie's Awesome Animals

Hello people on the computer. I'm writing from Australia and after going to the Great Barrier Reef, we spent three days at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in the Green Mountains. There were lots of cool and amazing birds and animals found there. The first day we went on a tree-top walk on a bridge that took us around the top of the trees in the rainforest. It also had a ladder that climbed to the very top.

The next day we went on a hike to a waterfall and I was really excited because I spotted a wallaby in the bushes. It was fun to see a wallaby in the wild and we also heard lots of loud and unusual bird calls.

Next we went to a town called Mooloolaba and we stayed in our friend Dick & Liz's apartment. It was very close to the beach and the boogie boarding there was the best I have ever done in my life ... I loved it.  We also went to Underwater World, where there were tons of cool and interesting fish.  They had awesome anemones and a long moray eel swimming through holes in the coral.  There was even a fish that looked like a pineapple!

We also spent a day at the Australia Zoo, which is known for its crocodiles and Australian animals.  Australia has lots of animals that are found no place else in the world, like kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, koalas, and wombats.  Australia Zoo had all types of endangered animals and they work really hard to tell people what they should do to protect and help take care of them.

There was also an animal hospital at the Australia Zoo.  They had baby koalas that had been orphaned because their mothers had been hit by a car or attacked by dogs.  People should always lock their dogs up at night to help protect other animals.  They also told us that if you accidentally hit a koala or kangaroo, you should look in the pouch to see if there's a baby (or Joey) in it and if there is, the baby should be taken to an animal hospital.

My favorite baby koala that was being raised at the animal hospital was named Maxine.  Maxine was so cute and once she's 4 kilograms, which is about 9 pounds, they're going to put a tracking device on her so they can still check up on here once they put her back into the wild to live.  They'll put her someplace safe with lots of eucalyptus trees for her to eat.

That's all for now and "good-on-ya mates!"
