Last Stop

Hello people, I'm reporting from Panama and having a great time. The first place we went was Los Quetzales Lodge. The owner, Carlos, was really nice and when we got there, he showed us around and told us everything about the place. Carlos then took us to his barn, where there were ten little puppies. They were labs and they were absolutely adorable. They were only a month old and sooooooooo cute. It was fun because we got to hold and pet them. They would also bite your ankles because they were teething (but it didn't hurt).

Our guide was named Jonathan and although he didn't speak that much English, he was really nice and knew every type of bird in Panama. When we got to our cabin, we found out it had no electricity. We didn't mind because they had a fireplace and since we were in a cloud forest, it got cold enough that we needed a fire at night.  But the really cool thing about the cabin was that quetzal birds were common in this area, so in the morning we would look and try to find them. Tyler found a lot of them and most of our quetzal sightings were right from our room.

It is really cool looking and beautiful with its spots. She showed us one of the ocelots that was pregnant and was about to give birth any day ... I'm sure that will be a cute baby.

Photo: OcelotCarlos also brought us to a farm where they milk cows! We got to try it and it was fun, but I'm not that good at it, so I guess when I grow up, I'm not going to be a farmer. I loved Los Quetzales and hope to come back again.

Our last stop of the trip was to an island called Bastimentos and that is where our friend Greg has a hut. It was a real open-air hut with no electricity and no bathroom, so you had to dig a hole and go ... you know what. Then you filled it in with sand. Not that nice right, but it was the only way. And you might wonder how we got our food. Right, we got all of our food before hand. Any food that needed to stay cold was put in a huge cooler and in the cooler there were three BIG blocks of ice. Those three pieces of ice lasted us for days, so it worked really well.

On our first day in Bastimentos we just chilled and had fun. Usually we would relax in the morning and do some school work. Then we would do something fun in the afternoon. One day we went to a place called Coral Cay where there was some great snorkeling. We even went to a dock where we saw a stingray and big barracuda. To snorkel we had to climb down the ladder on the dock and when we wanted to get out of the water, the barracuda was guarding the ladder! We waited a little while and then it went away and we got out quick.

On our last day we went to the village where our new friend Joey lives. Joey is native to the island and helps Greg take care of his place when he's not there. There are about 450 indigenous people who live on Bastimentos and otherwise, most of the island is part of a national marine park. Joey and his family were really nice and we got to meet his brother George and have dinner at his parent's house. We had a special farewell feast of seafood that Joey caught that day.

I loved Panama and I hope I can come back. And our next stop is ... HOME!

Hi^-^;;;

That trip looks really amazing. I'm living in SINGAPORE right now and coming from the USA I have to say it's truly awesome.
A couple things you probably don't know about Singapore:

1. In Singapore there's the world's largest ferris-wheel.
2. Singapore is nearly on the equator(if you come you should bring at least 3/4 a bottle of sunscreen/sunblock if you visit since a lot of americans don't trust some asian brands.)
