Cady

Hi! I'm Cady. Cusco is amazing! Yesterday afternoon, we saw some of the marvelous creations of the Inca. They built terraces on the mountain side to experiment on how plants grew in different humidity. The terraces were circular and they had steps going up the side. The Inca brought stones from the river to build the terraces, which have lots of layers. A man that the Inca called a priest had a house on the terraces where he and others could take care of the plants. When you stood on the edge and looked down to take a picture, you could see the amazing structures that the Inca built long ago. If you looked hard enough, you could almost see the Incas working. A research group had just finished restoring it and looking for clues to how the Inca lived and farmed. They used aqueducts to irrigate the terraces. Although they were also used for farming, the terraces were also a temple, a place to worship the gods. Just looking at the terraces, you could tell how magnificent the Inca were.

We ate lunch at the Aranwa Hotel, where we would be staying that night. After eating a lunch of soup and pasta, we went to explore the rooms. Our rooms had everything that you could imagine- plus more! After we were satisfied with are examination, lots of us went swimming. The water was freezing! We all got into the hot tub, where we dared each other to jump into the icy pool. After swimming, we went back to our rooms. On the way there, there were two alpacas grazing in the lawn! You would think that they wouldn't want alpacas messing up their grass, but the hotel staff seemed very pleased to have then there.

For dinner we took a bus to a riverside lodge where there was a bonfire and a sky full of stars. The kids made pizza for dinner, starting with making the dough and then putting the toppings on. We had our pizzas and then had dessert. The pizzas were delicious! Late that night we drove back to the hotel and fell right asleep once I crawled into bed.

Hi Cady!

Mom here. GREAT job on your blog! Love the photo! Sounds like you got a great science lesson, Ms. Boody will be so pleased! So did you take the dare to swim in the icy water? No complaints about how cold the water is at swim practice when you return! I miss you tons and tons! Hugs to you and Dad!!!

Love,
Mom

That sounds pretty neat! Did anyone actually jump in the icy water? What did you have for desert after the pizzas? What kinds of toppings did you put on the pizzas, any different that here in America? The picture of the terraces is really pretty! Where did you take it! I bet the stars at night were absolutely marvelous! I love to look up at the stars! What exactly did the hotel rooms look like? They seem to be pretty amazing! Wow, llamas in the yard! At school today there were goats at our playground!

Hi everyone! Everyone got into the icy water, but none of us stayed in for long. About the pizzas, the only thing different was that you put the toppings on first, then the cheese!

Cady,
Your description of the terraces is brilliant...no wonder you won the trip!!! It is amazing the technology these people developed so long ago. I wonder what they grew there?
The hotel sounds great---except the cold water---and finding an Alpaca in the lawn of the hotel is hysterical.
