Dewey in the Rain Forest

The rain forest was AMAZING!! We saw sooooo many different types of animals and bugs!!!! I would love to talk about it all, but I am going to focus this blog entry on our journey to the canopy tower at the Posada Amazonas lodge. After an early wake-up to go to the parrot clay lick (unfortunately we didn't see any parrots due to the weather) we decided to go to the canopy tower to view the rain forest in a new perspective.

We had a 15-20 minute walk down the muddy trails of the rain forest until we finally made it to the tower. It was a 120-foot metal tower. I looked up and couldn't even see the top (that's how tall it was). We went up single file on the narrow steps to the top. It was very neat to see the trees in different ways every step we took. Once arriving to the second to last step we got to crawl through a little trap door onto the platform on the top of this structure.
When I stood up I was amazed at the view. It was a never-ending blanket of trees with the river slicing through it, in a zigzagging pattern. About eight of us could fit up there at a time. We got to see colorful parrots that flew onto a tree right next to us, and I also saw a blue toucan!! After taking several breathtaking photos, we climbed down the tower to the bottom.

Being up there was very beautiful and scary (because the tower was shaking back and forth from the wind). I have always dreamed of seeing the rain forest from above; I can't believe that National Geographic actually made it come true!!!!! Thanks for an AWESOME trip!!!!

Wow! Everything sounds so fun! I can't believe the tower was shaking! I think I've seen your picture before. May be you shot it from the same angle? Whatever the reason, it looks really familiar. I really, Really, REALLY want to win this trip so bad! I know I can do it, and I have faith that I will win it!

There's definitely a lot of blogs, and I'm happy that they're coming up. But where are the videos? It'd be cool to see them so that we viewers can get a better visual of the expedition, just like the Australia one.

I know I can win! I want to win this contest so bad! I've even had the first comment for many of the blogs. That's cool. That's never happened to me before. Back to my main subject, I REALLY WANT TO WIN THE HANDS-ON EXPLORER CHALLENGE CONTEST!!!!! I KNOW I CAN DO IT, AND I KNOW I WILL WIN!!!!

WOW! Seeing all of the blogs makes me 110% more determined to win this contest. When I hear someone on the blogs talking about winning it I just smile, cause I m so happy to have this opportunity! Shastasteph, hopefully next year everyone will be hearing from you in a foreign country! (if things work out me too!)
