On the way to her father, Swanilde meets a boy named Val, who she later finds out is her brother, who had run away many years before. Val and Swanilde reunite with their father. But then, Swanilde discovers that her family had been hiding a secret from her for her entire life. This secret is too hard to bear, and Swanilde decides to run away.
Swanilde ends up in France, Egypt, and even Greece! She goes on many journeys, which lead her to discover how important family really is.

I loved this book! While I was reading it, I could not put it down! I saw that there was a page about the author, so I decided to check it out. I was completely surprised when I found out that the author is actually ten years old! She writes amazingly well, and I strive to be like her. I hope you will read this book, it is worth your time!

Ida May has just lost her last best friend. Her name is Elizabeth and she moved away because her dad got a new job in a new town. Now she doesn’t have anybody who is nice to her. She decides it might be easier to be lonely rather than make new friends. But, Ida’s plan to stay lonely fails when the new student comes to their class.

Even though she kind of likes the new girl, Stacey, she isn’t allowed to hang out with her because of the 4th grade bully named Jenna. But Ida May figures out a way to fool Jenna. She begins sending secret notes to Stacey. They create new names and talk to each other by sending secret notes to each other. They also have a secret hiding place to exchange the notes. Even if gets discovered, Jenna wouldn’t be able to figure out who they were from because they used different names. In the notes, Stacey is Anastasia and Ida May is Cordelia.

For a while, the secret note friendship works well until Jenna discovers their secret hiding place. Ida May has a tough decision to make. Does she reveal her secret identity and risk the mean things that Jenna might do, or does she tell everybody who she is and stick up for her friendship with Stacey?

I think that this book is SO good that I wanted the story to keep going and going.  It’s really cool how Ida May and Stacey figure out how to stay best friends even when one of them was about to move away.

Double Identity

BOOK NAME: Double Identity
AUTHOR: Margaret Peterson-Haddix

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. It’s a mystery that has lots of secrets. Bethany is the main character of the book. She is a normal 13 year old with a normal life until one night her parents drive her to another state to stay with an aunt and cousin she never knew she had. Her parents made sure she was OK, and left. She wouldn’t see them again for several months.

Her dad calls every so often to check on Bethany and talk to her aunt. He seems to be running away from somebody, but Bethany doesn’t know who. While she is staying with her aunt, some strange things happen. The people from the town act very weird as if they have seen a ghost. She gets a package containing lots of money and four different birth certificates. She also finds a bunch of home videos of her mom and dad and a little girl who looks exactly like her, but was born several years earlier. And then, her aunt and cousin tell her who she really is.

The reason that her parents have left her is that she must be protected at all costs. The people looking for her would surely find her if she had stayed with them. Once the secrets come out, she realizes there is no one in the world like her.

There are lots of secrets and twists in this book.  It is really fun to piece together the details of this book and see if you can guess the real story of Bethany…if that is her real name!
