Another highlight was getting to see Nadal and Federer play on the same day. It has inspired me to work hard on my tennis and I will try out for my middle school tennis team again this year (I didn't make it last year). I also learned how a lot of different sports were played & judged (canoe/kayak slalom, beach volleyball, badminton, diving, etc.). Being able to watch a few events in person helped me appreciate how hard the athletes have to work before and during the Olympics.
Beijing is pronounced "Bay-jing", as in Jingle Bells, not "Bay-zhing." In Chinese, 北京 Beijing means "Northern Capital." The first character means "north", and the second means "capital."

The Beijing Olympic Logo is also based on the second character, or "Jing". The logo is just the "Jing" character written in an old Chinese calligraphy style and then manipulated to look like a man running.
I want to thank my parents for getting the Olympic tickets, taking most of the pictures and movies, as well as helping me edit my blog posts. Without their help, my work wouldn't be as good as what you got to see. I also want to thank National Geographic Kids for hosting and letting me blog for them. It has been a fun and educational opportunity and I had a great time!
I also need to thank you for reading my blog and encouraging me to do my best. It's been a pleasure to write for you guys, and I really appreciate all the positive comments that allowed me to do this kind of work
School starts for me on Thursday. Hope you all have a good school year! Thanks for reading...

David, thanks SO much for sharing your experiences with us. I wish I could have come to China to see the Olympics in person! But your blog made me feel like I was there.
David,
I am a rather "old" boy, but am a kid at heart. I have just read all of your blog(s) and they are excellent. You kept quality high all the way through. Well done. I learned something new through each blog. I am glad you told us how to say Beijing without the "z" - even the BBC news readers sometimes insert the "z"! Photos were super and helped make things "live".
If you keep up your tennis and excel maybe you will be in the London Olympics in 2012.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I'm a boy from Beijing, I'm glad to see you are having a happy time in Beijing.
I'm a girl from China, thank you for coming.
Hi David,
Thanks for your posting. I am six years old and I live in Jamaica. I was able to see the races, gymnastics, and equestrian sports. I really enjoyed watching Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell-Brown and the other athletes as they ran and won their races. I was happy too to see my Jamaican flag flying high for the gold medals and hearing our anthem too. Here at home everyone felt proud to be Jamaican. I am back at school too and enjoying it.
